Laura Lopez Cano paints memorable images that disclose the tender but powerful feelings of womanhood. Her art appears to glimpse private moments and sentimental encounters: the images drip with female experience - not only as a remembrance of childhood, but as an interpretation of culture and tradition.
Cano’s works capture the beauty, strength, elegance and pride of Latinas and all women of color. The lush oversized canvases are striking and the large open faces are expressive and real.
Cano’s work has evolved into a unique style blending acrylics with oils on large canvases. She has focused on depicting women, including representations of the Madonna.
Laura has exhibited in numerous galleries and art galleries throughout the United States. She has shown her work at the United Nations in New York City and the National Museum of Women and their Work in Washington D.C. She has received "best of show" honors in several exhibitions and has been selected as poster artist for several organizations which include National Hispana Leadership Institute, Hispanic Women's Network of Teas, Las Comadres por las Americas, Hispanic Women in Leadership, MANA, and the NFL. Laura is featured in the Art Book entitled, "Triumph of our Communites, Four Decades of Mexican Art" and was named 2002 YWCA Woman of the Year in Art.
