Latinas In Progress
With Hispanic enrollment in local schools at an all-time high, the number of young women needing help preparing for college continues to grow.
For over the past decade, the Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas (HWNT) has built a program that mentors local Latina students called the Latinas In Progress (LIP) educational series. Through LIP we familiarize high school Latinas with the skills they need to succeed in college. Through the support of community leaders, parents, and past LIP graduates, we are thankful that the LIP program grown to a thriving new record this year of 80 young ladies from throughout Tarrant County. Each fall, the HWNT Fort Worth Chapter produces the ArtSí Art Show & Silent Auction with donations from artists, collectors, members, businesses and individuals. In April 2014, we, HWNT-FW and our generous partners, which include Texas Christian University, Texas Wesleyan University and University of Texas Arlington awarded scholarships worth more than a $330,000. This year’s Art Show will be our 10th annual fundraiser in hopes of growing the amount of scholarships awarded at our 2014 Mother-Daughter Scholarship Awards Banquet.
