Featured Art Piece: Raquel Torres Oil on Canvas, 26 in x 20 in
I
paint to pay homage to those I admire and have inspired me. To liberate myself
and embody the nostalgia that lives within me. I am
inspired by strong and beautiful women who despite the struggles of the times
in which they lived were not afraid of who they were and celebrated their
womanhood. Women who broke the barriers of borders, language, inequality, paved their own way and were absolutely unapologetic represents the strength
that lives in everyone of us.The
struggle and triumph is all in the power of being a woman.
I
find my muses in actresses and artists of the silent film era and the golden
age, as well as in the women in real life who hold a special place in my heart. I
find a picture that draws me in and follow an artistic process that reveals
their aura as seen through my eyes.
I
believe in the power that lays in us all. This is not exclusive to those who
have gained fame. For me they are a reminder that they too were human beings,
just as flawed and complex but above all eternal. However I do urge attention
to Hispanic women in my paintings because we too need our heroines. I want
their names, beauty and accomplishments to be exposed as a reminder that we too
are eternal, beautiful and powerful. We just need to see ourselves the way we
see the stars.
