Dear Amistades,
We are in need of Silent Auction items for our Latina Art Show. Check with your hairdresser, oil change shop, manicurist, etc., to see if they can donate their service.
With Hispanic enrollment in local schools at an all-time high, the number of young women needing help preparing for college continues to grow. For over the past decade, the Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas (HWNT) has been building a unique fast track that mentors deserving local Latina students. Our program is theLatinas In Progress (LIP) educational series. Through LIP we familiarize Latinas who are graduating High School seniors with the rigors of college, as well as teach them the skills they will need on to succeed in their personal and professional lives.
LIP students are counseled on how to seek out scholarships and other sources to support their education, but we like to do our part, too. Each fall, HWNT produces the ArtSí Art Show & Silent Auction with donations from artists, collectors, business and individuals such as you. Those partners who are eager to help – but would rather keep their collection intact – either donate monies at a specific sponsorship level, or provide an endowment that matches the amount raised at the art show.
In 2011, we, HWNT and our generous college partners, which include Texas Christian University, Texas Wesleyan University, and University of Texas Arlington to name a few, with community partners, private and HWNT member donors, we awarded scholarships worth more than a quarter of a million dollars, to make the dreams of 20 young ladies come true. This year’s Art Show will be our 7th annual fundraiser and we hope to continue to grow the amount of scholarship funding awarded at our 2012 Mother-Daughter Scholarship Awards Banquet.
The Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas is a statewide organization devoted to promoting the advancement of women. The Fort Worth chapter believes and supports this effort through LIP and the participating students and scholarship recipients. I’m sure you will agree that a college education helps build productive citizens who contribute greatly to our community and quality of life. We find that education is the key to bringing whole families into the fabric of our community and we hope you will join us in our efforts to support these students.
Contact me if you have any questions, have items to donate or want to make a monetary donation.
