The Act of Hope

Acid Free artist paper and acrylic
"Life without hope is death in disguise"
This piece was inspired by my "sisters" whom I have sponsored through Women for Women International. More recently, it was also inspired by the women right here in my community, whom I've met through volunteer work, who are fighting to not only survive but thrive. In war-torn regions all over the world and even in our own neighborhoods, women are hoping for a chance: a chance to change their lives, their children's lives, their neighbor's lives and the world in which they live.
It gives me great joy to make art with purpose and in some way to engage others to also become part of the act of hope. Using silhouettes as a medium enables me to project an image that allows the onlooker to fill in the blanks based on his or her own experience. In this piece, four women from different countries unite to form a collective power so strong, it can move mountains.
